City of Romulus

Home City of Romulus
City of Romulus
DESCRIPTION

About Romulus

Quality of Life
Romulus is an inclusive but close-knit community that respects diversity, holds traditional values and offers lots of room to grow.  This is the ideal community for people who enjoy simple sophistication, yet want to be surrounded by the advantages of the big city.

Detroit, Ann Arbor and Toledo are just minutes away from town, offering you world-renowned cultural, entertainment and sporting venues.  And we’re just a short trip across the Bridge to Canada!

Romulus’ exemplary schools provide innovative and nationally recognized programs for our talented students.

Our healthcare facilities are well respected and include a number of hospitals and medical centers.  We also are fortunate to have major medical research hospitals in our backyard, including the world-class University of Michigan Medical Center.

Romulus is home to major industries and corporate headquarters, ensuring a strong economy.  Additional Fortune 500 companies are just minutes away, making workplace commutes quick and easy.

In fact, that’s one of our big advantages.  We are nestled near major airports and expressways, making our location attractive to both residents and businesses.  We are close enough, yet far enough, to offer the best of all worlds.

Our community spirit is evident in everything we do, from hosting city-wide festivals and celebrations to maintaining attractive park facilities and preserving historic museums and sites.

We  invite you to explore Romulus, the city with small town appeal and big city style.
Recreation and Culture
The Romulus Parks and Recreation Department maintains four community/neighborhood parks throughout the City for the enjoyment of our residents. Parks are available for rental for private events and include the following amenities: 5 full-size basketball courts, 2 dog park areas with canine exercise equipment, 2 softball/baseball fields, horse shoe pits, archery range, sand volleyball court, and multiple playscapes, barbeque grills and picnic pavilions. Recreational offerings are always being added and include a wide variety such as youth and adult softball, soccer, golf, dance, Zumba, tai chi, chess and annual events such as the Mother/Son and Daddy/Daughter Dances.

In addition, the Romulus Downtown Development Authority (DDA) maintains two parks in the downtown area. The community park features permanent restroom facilities with running water, playscapes, barbeque grills, a large pavilion and roller/ice hockey rink. The other park, the Romulus Historical Park, is the highlight of our cultural center. The Romulus Historical Park is the site of The Romulus Historical Museum which includes the town’s original one-room schoolhouse built in 1839, a restored house of one of the City’s earliest residents built in 1855, and other historical artifacts such as a railroad freight house, caboose and windmill. These buildings, in addition to the City’s largest pavilion, hosts some of the community’s most cherished events including the City Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch with the Bunny, Sounds in Downtown Summer Concert Series, free Movies in the Park, Fall Family Fun Festival and Scarecrow Contest, Pumpkin Festival, City Christmas Tree Lighting and Dinner with Santa. These events are sponsored by either, or both, the Romulus Community Services Department and the DDA.

The City has a premier 88,000 sq. ft. Athletic Center, which consists of an aquatic center with splash pool, lazy river and hot tub, fitness area, basketball courts and banquet facility. It is membership based with approximately 10,000 members and offers programming for all ages.

The City also has a beautiful Senior Services Center for its residents as well. The Senior Center has an on-site commercial kitchen and rooms to hold up to 120 people for special events and is available for private rentals. There is also a fitness center room, walking path and outdoor Senior Community Gardens. The Senior Center is open throughout the week with services, events, activities, and meals served every day for residents and visitors aged 55 and older.
