Certified Peer Support Specialist
Job Summary:
The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) provides recovery-oriented support services to individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges. Drawing from lived experience, the CPSS fosters hope, promotes wellness, and supports participants in achieving their personal recovery goals in a welcoming, non-clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trusting relationships with program participants through shared lived experience.
- Provide peer mentoring, advocacy, and support in group and individual settings.
- Assist participants in developing wellness and recovery plans.
- Facilitate peer-led groups and activities that promote empowerment and community engagement.
- Support transportation needs and accompany participants to appointments or community events as needed.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided.
- Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in the state of Michigan.
- Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
- Must pass background check and possess a valid driver’s license (chauffeur’s license preferred for transport duties).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in drop-in centers or peer-run programs.
- Familiarity with recovery-oriented practices and trauma-informed care.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
