Sample letter of notification for a “worker necessary to conduct minimum
business operation”
Workers will need designation in a written format by March 31 at 11:59 pm to carry with them when going to their place of employment. Below is a sample of a letter from one local employer workers necessary to conduct minimum business operation. There may be other information your HR department requires or another way to write the letter.

(Date prior to April 1), 2020

To whom it may concern:
(Employee Name) is an employee of (company name) and works as (job title) in (City/Municipality). Employee’s services are necessary (state reason). The Employee is required to report to the Employees designated work location to ensure the operation of the business, even during disasters and emergencies
when non-essential operations have been suspended. The Employee’s position is designated as one that is necessary to conduct minimum business operation.

Workers who are necessary to conduct minimum basic operations are:

  • Workers are necessary to sustain or protect life
  • Those whose in-person presence is strictly necessary to allow the business or operation to maintain the value of inventory and equipment
  • Care for animals
  • Ensure security
  • Process transactions (including payroll and employee benefits)
  • Facilitate the ability of other workers to work remotely
Designations must be made in writing, whether by electronic message, public website, letter, or other appropriate means. Such designations, however, may be made orally until March 31, 2020, at 11:59 pm.
